How do we know we're stuck in the namecheck process?
Does the on-line status state that the application is in the namecheck 'phase' or something to that effect?
Thanks,

these actions are not done "casually' or haphazardly"
we have created these strategies based on advice and feedback from the offices of friendly lawmakers, advice from professinal lobbyists and our own experience so far. the "assistants" you speak too keep running tallies of phone calls on a given issue and these are communicated regularly to legislative directors and lawmakers. digital signatures and even digital petitions are given less weight- handwritten snail mailed letters on the other hand are treated with great importance.
you may wish to google the nyt articles on how numbers usa operates to derail bills- they call! if our members would show the same enthusiasm and every single person would call when requested, we could have the same impact.

The only housing market which doesn't show any sign of correction is Mumbai, as the builders have more Dubai, 'Bhai' kind of money. Everywhere else properties have already fallen 20-30%. In gurgaon & NOIDA they are down 40% from previous year...
Even in Mumbai, prices are coming down (~10-20% from last year) however they are so high right now it has to crash more than 50% to come in "NRI" range. I feel sorry for the common middle class of Mumbai... They have no options but to go beyond Borivali and Thane even after crash :( ....

I agree .. no risk no reward!
I'm itching to finish my 6 months on EAD to change job..
Using H1B makes one safe. but how many years we want to do the safe job. If I-485 gets denied do u have enough patiences to file another green card. One thing is believe is "We are here to make money, most of us are in our thirties and we have short time remaining to reach our goals. I think we all have one year EAD. wait for 6 months then go on job hopping, learn whatever you can, get into whatever you want. Start a business, do something.... Anything you do will help you in future. Sitting with H1B in pocket may take 4 years cream of your life.
If you have the talent you can get great salaries anywhere in the world. Because of your talents and hard work you guys are here. World is not small.

There are lot of people from different countries who have exploited asylum system as well.
I actually admire indian graduates of different streams who are able to transfer to computer science so easily.Maybe it is education in basic sciences and Maths earlier.
Sure, there are not Nobel prize winners within our community, but generally, some how, people are able to deliver what is expected of them.If consultants are not of high quality,Hiring companies fire them easily. As it is,there is strong anti H1-B propanganda going on,so if anything we discuss here, can be picked up external groups.

Can you please give a back ground of yours before talking about others ? Are you CEO of some company ?
Is that a mandatory criterion to express an opinion? If so, then you should have obliged to it first. Simple. :)
First learn to complete your profile ...look at the 485 mailing and receive dates ..
Maybe he doesn't give a shit about the profile. What's your point?

After meeting several administrative and Lawmakers staff, we concluded there's no legislation that can help people waiting for Labor Cert from BECs. But we thought if people get 3 year H1B ext. Atleast they can move on to new jobs etc and file in PERM etc. It will be a big relief.
Just contributed $100 and asked several of my friends to join.
Btw, I do not see anthing in the amendments to address labor backlog reduction problem? Is that not goal of IV any more?

We the H1Bs are the victims of the this system. We did not create this system. It is true that there are social costs associated with this system. Abolishing the system is not the solution. Reform and making the system just is the solution..That is all we are asking for....
Blaming the victim of an atrocity for the atrocity is sheer stupidity....

I am wondering the same for 2002 applicants. I wonder if many people were approved in 2007 fiasco and if yes, then why PD is stuck at Nov 2001?
I am also thinking the same that many might have been approved in 2007, because most of these applicants had a chance to apply before the gates were closed in 2005, and would have been approved in 2007. But 0 responses is still odd.
The reasons for Nov 2001 PD could be due to backlog processing centers that held sway over these applicants (non-RIR cases), but by same yardstick, there still should be some cases in early 2002. Odd indeed (though a good kind of "odd", as we will get a welcome jump in dates once they ball starts rolling).

Congratulations.
You have the right to feel what you want. But here are my 2 cents:
You on paper are now an American. It gives you good easy travel without visas etc. However people WILL treat you by your appearance/color/etc...
I request you to help your birth country by donating to schools etc like you donate to charities here(goodwill store etc).
Let me know if you dont agree!
Thanks so much.
I am associated with CRY (Child Relief and You) in Delhi. I also plan to donate to my college, IIT Kharagpur.

But advocates for skilled immigrantsmany of whom remain stuck for years on H-1Bs waiting in the long queue for permanent residencyworry that the bill is a political maneuver rather than an earnest effort at reform. Aman Kapoor, president of the skilled immigrant advocate group Immigration Voice, says that a more effective bill would ensure H-1B visa workers are on a level playing field with U.S. workers. "Skilled immigrants on H-1Bs don't get the same rights and protections as everyone else," says Kapoor. "So wouldn't the solution be to empower and enable the skilled immigrants on H-1Bs such thatskilled immigrants on H-1s have adequate protections so that no one can take advantage of [them]? But no one wants to talk about protections for skilled immigrants."
