I suppose it would help if IV core team would discuss with members about their target contribution and percentage of goal already met. i know it might not be possible to give out the exact numbers but we can always have a percentage % on the site showing how much more is needed. This will also energize active and non active members and give them something definite to work towards..

There are several of us who have advanced degrees and yet have been put under EB3. Now, a lot of them can move on to a more responsible role but held captive by the immigration situation.
Just a thought - if the STEM degree holders can be exempt, then it will take some weight off the entire system.

I have a thought! How about fund raising events....members with some talent can really help here...hold an event (such as a concert...i have heard of some talented classical singers or classical dance performers from India giving concerts for a fee of a few thousand dollars in university auditoriums or other cultural venues) with all proceeds going to IV, or sell some services (such as IT services, accounting services, or any other high-skill talent that might otherwise cost a lot), etc. Say, someone wants to sell something on eBay, how abolut selling it and donating the proceeds to eBay. This way, we might be able to contribute more funds by performing some activities that we already have the talent for.
come on people, among such qualified and educated folks as the members of this organization, can we not find some skill in us that can be used to raised some funds?

The question is who will fight it. Lawyer website are posting information. But none of them have filed a lawsuit if they really cared about this issue.

You need to understand how legal system works. Lawyer can not file lawsuite by himself/herself. It has to come from Employer, that too, when employer's H1-B petition is denied based on memo info or H1-B worker is denied entry. Damages (or Loss) must be shown before a civil suit can be filed.

But the cost of collecting 5 bucks a month from 20,000 members makes this less than desirable. An yearly $60-100 membership fees is what I'd expect to pay to any organization - more if that organization is actually working to make a significant difference to my life, to resolve issues that affect me more most other stuff.
A 2-month trial-membership is more like what a business does... and may not be desirable for all the house-keeping involved in such efforts. For subscription-based content websites, this may be O.K. - but that's exactly what we're not, and shouldn't be perceived as such.

Actually, not all he said was wrong.
We should not support what these IT consulting companies are doing with H1B programme just because we are on H1. These big companies are hoarding H1B visas so they can have an upperhand when dealing with the employees.
My own employer was trying to get as many H1s as possible without having ANY work for them.
This is also due to the fact that because even they have no work for all the H1B employees, they file for H1Bs in bulk, for they know that they don't have to pay people on bench, even though by law they are supposed to...
But most importantly we are concerned with visa recapture and GC reform in the long run..If H1B reform is the step towards that goal then that would be good..

ICICI Bank are suckers. They charged me Rs. 900 with fault on their side.
They raised the minimum balance from Rs 10K to Rs 15,000 from April 1, 2008 onwards. They didnt notified me in email and letter. But they charged 900 to me , stating I didnt maintained the required balance.
I fought with them that I will take ICICI to court of law and sue atleast 10,000 US dollars if they dont credit the money. The next day, they credited Rs.900 .
I decided not to make any more transactions with this CRAP bank. They will very less dollar conversion rate.

With the attitude towards immigration in this country, i really doubt this bill will pass :(, i really hope it does though, i think the USICS is a strong believer of "sabar ka phal meeta hota hai", translated, the fruit of a long wait is sweet, i just hope the wait is not too long and the fruit rotten

You can actually start getting your friends in similar situation involved right now. Get them registered and get them to read up on IV in general. The only way we can get any reform is by numbers. I hope you have already joined your state chapter and look forward to your continued presence and contribution to IV.

First off, i have mentioned above that this is NOT a solution to retrogression. Secondly, the USCIS does not care what we say to them, they are going to take exactly how much time they want to take to process our Green cards. All I was suggesting was, we ask for interim relief. Now like Logiclife mentioned we are trying for smaller bits of interim relief and that is a reasonable answer. However please do not make remarks like "this person is here to make money and is not after GC". Are we not all after making money? Is that not why we want GCs? We certainly dont want the GC to frame it and keep it next to our other trophies do we? Then why are people accusing me of wanting to "make money"? The problem with some people on this forum is the lack of respect for an alternate view. It is one thing to disagree and it is another to make ridiculous off topic remarks about what someone said.

By getting diverted to interim relief for spouse, people will be able to make money, but not for too long without a GC. Does anyone here have experience with commodity trading?
Can we trade in commodities on H1 or L1 status?
Is it too risky like forex trading?
Who are the online brokers offer commodity trading?
Is there a minimum account balance / trade required every month or so?

Steady march!, not fast march!! ;) I am very hopeful of the dates moving past mid 2002 for FY 2009. (which is about 8 months movement from now, and I think that is very possible).

How long does it take if I get my GC now (as a bachelor) and then later on apply GC for my wife? I heard its around 4-5 years again?
So, would it be a better decision to wait and not apply for 485 (I have my 140 approved as of Dec 06) now until I get married to be able to apply it together with my wife?

I am in the same boat. I had interview on Dec 17th at 10:30 AM and have not yet received my passport. The lady at the chennai consulate said that they are still waiting on the PIMS verification. I am getting very anxious as I have return tickets for Jan 04.
