It does seem that continuous criticism has started getting to the core team.
I want to let core team know that I am 100% in full support of IV. I encourage other people who have not yet shown their support to IV to do the same. They need it.
It is sad to see people who are probably frustrated due to their situations or lack enough patience venting their anger on IV core team. I for one, don't seem to get enough time out of my routine to really do anything and really admire core team members for spending so much time on this issue which is of course of so much importance for all of us on this website.
The people lashing out at core members need to understand that IV is not a shop where you pay money and buy results. It is an attempt to take voice of skilled immigrants to lawmakers, and that is all. You should not expect anything else. Please understand what is causing the frustration and address that issue separately. Leave the core members alone.
As for core members, I would like to say thank you from bottom of my heart. Seeing core members lashing out at other members is not probably the best thing for IV, however I can understand the frustration of core members.
I just hope that most members realize the limitations of IV and have enough patience to weather out this phase of frustration without causing harm IV which in fact should be their only hope.

Reid Schedules Vote On House's Iraq Resolution (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/15/AR2007021500876.html)
Senate Democratic leaders abruptly switched course in the Iraq war debate today, shelving a complicated non-binding resolution that has run into procedural hurdles, in favor of a House version that simply states Congress's objections to President Bush's troop escalation plan.
Moral of report: Politics 101
1. Things can change abruptly.
2. Some things will not pass as much as you want it.
3. If some thing is not passing, try to salvage as much as you can.

Many of us are waiting to file I485. Think about them who have filed and are stuck in namecheck for 2 years plus or waiting for visa numbers to get current- they are renewing their EAD every few months (and guess what, they are paying extra money).
Now that the atmosphere looks good for businesses (via increased H1Bs), people who either voted red or did not vote at all, are getting scared of possible democratic party actions.

We absolutely must make all forums accseible to registered members only and,
- Non paying members will see a pop-up screen reminding them that they must contribute.
- Pop ups reappear every so many minutes to discourgae (or encourage) non paying idle members
- Maintaining registarion requires logging in every x days
I enforce upon me a rule that every time I open my mouth here, I will contribute 20$ beginign with this mail.

IV core team is very active and working hard. Just because we do not see their posts on the forum does not mean they are not active. Aman Kapoor or Waldenpond- IV founder is very much active and working hard on this mission despite having his greencard. We have regular daily discussions as a team and he is one person I have seen who sleeps, drinks and live this effort all the time. He has spent his personal money to travel to DC and still takes time off from work to travel to DC on regular basis. Likewise there are others who are committed to this effort and are working hard on the tasks assigned to them. You see me most of the time writing on the forum because in the core team, this is the task assigned to me. I communicate with members. If we have everyone posting on the forum, it will not be a good use of our limited time off work on daily basis. Also know that IV is not forums. Just by writing on the forums, nothing ever gets done on the hill. There are several tasks that we have to do in this advocacy effort to get something done. You can see more regular updates on the donor forum on what we do behind the scenes. It takes lot of effort, commitment and patience to be active in this effort because results are not immediate or guaranteed. But with our efforts we have have had our successes and we are positive about the future successes. The key is to be consistent, persistent and passionate about this advocacy work. We need to understand that we as an organization represent hundreds of thousands of people suffering due to the broken immigration system despite following all the rules and being legal in this country. This long wait has caused lot of pain and suffereing in people's lives and careers. Everyday we feel the pressure of hopes of thousands of our members who look upto us with some ray of light. As leaders of this organization we carry this responsibility bravely every day on our shoulders and feel motivated from the support of our members and the passion we have for this cause.
We do admire IV's motivation and Aman's hard work. What we asking is, you to hold a rally in DC, or do something big, we are tired of
1. Sending letters
2. Faxing to senators
3. Being asked for contributions, when we want too, but we want something big.
4. For past 3 years, a lot has been discussed, done but nothing big.
we would like to be galvanized for a cause, IV should plan something fast, before the summers.
Thanks,

Looks like they are going to use the unused EB visa numbers for FB.To me, this is family reunification bill and most likely will not have any benefit for us.
I think we need to study the bill in detail before we jump to any conclusions.
From reading the summary in the AILA website, specifically the below :
The legislation would reinforce our commitment to families and reduce current wait times in the family immigration system by:
Recapturing an estimated 400,000 family-sponsored and employment-based visas that went unused between 1992 and 2007.
Atleast to me it seems like the bill plans on using all the unused visas from the past years and apply that towards the family quota. Not sure if that would help the EB cause.
Inputs anyone?

You have to be aggressive and presistent to get a new job where you get better pay that is above the prevailing wage.
Secondly, if you are being paid lower than prevailing wage right now in H1B, your company is breaking the law and you could be in trouble too.
You need to get out before this thing turns into a nightmare and put your resumes out there on monster, dice etc...and GET THE HELL OUT. The job market is good right now and this is the best time to look for jobs that you can
1. Stay there for 5-6 years while you GC is processed.
2. Has decent pay, well above the prevailing wages.
Do IT NOW before the housing led recession slows the economy down again and job switch becomes difficult. What are you waiting for?

Yes a new memo was issued in 2009 (After DHS confirmed that they have worked with FBI to reduce the response time.) Now since FBI claims that 90/95% of the requests are happening within 6 months. DHS/USCIS is not allowing automatic approval of GC is FBI check was the only peice pending and was pending for more than 180 days.

Good post I like it and I probably may follow most of these eventually but, if I think about it, it seems to me lot of stress. Maintaining records from past ten (GC)/fifteen (Citizenship) years is certainly a stressful activity. Except education certificates I never cared for anything in my home country. In spite of taking care of all this, if you get involved in an unfortunate event everything GC/Citizenship goes into vain and back to square one.
I am not trying to discourage or depress any one. Its just a thought.
Appreciate your thought, thanks. Maintaining detailed documentation can be a big pain in you-know-where, particularly if I am asked to do it suddenly today (believe me, I am one of the world's leading disorganized blokes). Instead, if I begin to get organized early, the process eventually becomes incremental and stress-free. That is what I wanted to share here, the idea of getting organized early to have a smoother passage of time later (much like invest-today-afford-later philosophy). Unfortunate events are unpredictable, but that should not mean I ignore what I can control :)

Folks I have an update on my case.
We filed for Motion to reopen on which were receipted on March 27th, 2009. I wrote to Congressman, Senators and also Ombudsman. Today my congressman's office got an update that our MTRs were approved on April 30th and our 485s got reopened and they have sent letters to that effect.
What a relief. It was a stressful 6 week ordeal. Thanks to IV and its members for the help and support.
Congratulations. I wish you never had to go through all these.

I challenge the Journal to wave their labor force figures in the face of one of the hi-tech workers who have had to train their own replacement who is an H-1B visa holder. That's a smack in the face to the American worker and hardly an issue to take lightly.
How is it possible to enforce that a worker who trains H1B does not get replaced?
If this is happening then the fee increase is for training the replaced worker. This makes sense.
The only questions are: What is the number of these cases? What is the rationale for amount increase to re-train these cases?
I still don't see a rationale for paying for re-training anyone else!

Recently, one of my friend's dad came to Texas and got sick and the bill came to $60K. Unfortunatley, he did not buy travelers insurance and is fighting an uphill battle with the hospital.
My parents are coming next month, so I did a detailed research on all the insurance firms, both in India and in USA and I found that most of the ICICI or Tata-AIG plans have limited coverage, which limits the number of days in an ICU or visits by doctors etc.. Even if the plan has a $100K max, the plan may only cover upto $1000 per day for 30 days or so and then there is limitation for ICU and other surgeries. However, if you take a comprehensive coverage, then whatever the expenses, or wherever the charges are incurred, it does not matter. The total amount upto $100K will be covered and it does not limit ICU charges or room charges or doctor visits etc.
The only reason we need an insurance for parents is to cover emergencies, rather than regular doctor visits. Generally, any emergency run 60-70K, so I would recommend a minimum of $100K and do a comprehensive coverage. I have worked with IMG or check this guy at http://www.visitorshealthinsurance.com/
I even called IMG to ensure that this guy is an authorized re-seller/broker for the insurance.
Additionally, I did not find any insurance that covers pre-existing conditions. So just pray that they are healthy during their stay in US.
Yes, it is little expensive, but better peace of mind with comprehensive. If you do a local US insurance, then it is easy to get the insurance paper work done, when needed, rather than doing an Indian based insurance, which may need additional paper work and money transfer may get delayed.
