When you join a state chapter or a group in your area, it is not necessary to conduct face-to-face meetings everyday/every week, although in person meetings wouldn't hurt. The idea is to create a channel to dissipate information through channels other than WWW. Believe it or not, there are lot many folks from anti-groups who lurk around just to keep an eye on us. Participating or becoming part of the group near to you and encourage others to do the same will also help to build/strength a group of like minded folks in the area who could then team-up to meet with local lawmakers from your area/state. We are a grass roots organization and we need to have a stronger grassroots in order to continue to be more effective. As I said earlier, this channel also is very useful to dissipate information which cannot be shared on world wide web.
Now a days when everybody has presidential election on their mind, immigration issue is not on the list of things to do for most lawmakers. As such, it takes time for the updates and the there are updates that cannot be disclosed on www. We continue to work on our issues in manner we have always worked in the past. And in the absence of Congress not taking up our immigration issues, it some how becomes our fault even though it is ok if some folks would show up from time to time and suggest that they have reasons not to join a google or a yahoo group. And all of a sudden the problem is with organization and the manner in which we work and then there is an urgent to create a process. Although you seem to be suggesting that you want all the ducks in the row and world peace issues sorted out before you will start accepting updates in exactly the manner in which you like to receive them. Is that correct? How about the idea of getting actively involved in your area and create an active chapter, which was your idea to begin with, and one I would agree is an excellent idea.
It is of'course a valid question - what is going on. Also it is a very general statement and one which can have a very long answer and one which can be answered in few words. If you become part of a group in your area, you will know what is going on. Please understand that a significant number of members are putting lot of effort, if others are not able to participate actively, is it not fair to ask others to help in organizing in groups in the local area and be regular communication so that action items could be handled effectively?
I agree with most of your comments here. I am more realistic than most people here in the forums. So, I dont want all ducks in a row and world peace issues sorted out. Because, I know that is not happening anytime soon.
True, in a election year and with all the anti-immigration sentiments around, it is highly unlikely that something will happen in the near future. So, NO. I am not waiting to see some success, before I join the band wagon. When you started IV a few years back, I am not sure you envisioned this many members today. Inspite of having over 25000 members, the admin fix compaign only seem to have received about 10% letters. So, What are the other members doing? Why are they not participating? what is holding them back? That is a question for everyone of us. That is something, I thought every member should reflect upon. We have around 25000 members here in IV. But, we know for a fact that there are atleast a million people waiting in line. How do we reach them and how to get them to actively participate in IV action items?
Like you said, IV is a grass roots organization and it is up to the members to make things happen. But how? Apart from these action items for admin fixes etc, Can't IV have a membership drive? Get more people to join IV and contribute.
I know for a fact, that there are so many people here in Nebraska who have no clue about IV. I have been educating them when I get an opportunity. A Local Chapter could easily solve the problem. But, until now, I had no clue as to what is required to start a chapter. (Thank you Walking_dude). Answers to questions like this is what I meant by transaparency. Not the accounts or donations, as someone suggested in this forum.
Also, When I suggested about honarary payments to core team, I am not trying to belitte anyone in the team. I just thought, that you and other members of the core team should be compensated for all the efforts you put in. After all, these efforts and money you spend is going to benefit me and every other aspiring immigrant of this country. So, It was just a thought.
I will try my best to lay the foundations of IV presence here in NE. I would welcome any suggestions and comments.

An approved 140 with labor subst was ok.

just presenting a possible reason why what paskal proposed in his post does not work well in IV.......its not a question of whether phone calls are important or not....its a question of making a significant number of forum stakeholders (and not 1-2%) get to act on any initiative......fund raising/ calling efforts etc....
i genuinely believe that the core members go above and beyond whats expected to do what they are doing for IV - its truly remarkable...they all have busy lives and it takes great conviction and dedication to take the time out and do this...but why are the people still not responding despite the obvious pitfalls of not acting on GC related initiatives.......
maybe its lethargy, inaction, indifference etc.......but we should be open to considering that just maybe, a vast and silent majority of IVians do not feel a sense of representation in the organization and hence do not react as enthusiastically as they should........legitimacy among the constituents often comes with representation
why did most kingdoms around the world perish and give way to democracies......bcos the kings taxed the public based on their whims and fancies......elected govts may do the same but people still pay up and if they dont agree - they know they have a choice at the next elections.......
and no, i dont deserve to be the CEO - neither do i have a performance track record nor credibility here......should not stop me from voicing a contrarion view though
ill be the first to support you on that. nobody should stop anybody from expressing their point of view. i provided mine too. its just that, an opinion.
my disagreement is basically with the thread's premise. its not an "absurdity" to call lawmakers. in fact, its probably more absurd to think that this is absurd. my point in a nutshell was for us to be constructive.
ill just conclude with the exact words from the numbersusa spokesperson to its members following the recent events and this is on the top of the message, emphasis mine :
Your Phone Calls Worked!
So, there you go, need i say more? Good for them. They worked hard, were focussed on the task, made more calls and things went their way. Of course, we did have the Ag jobs bill which wasn't pretty to be hanging out with. Anyways, if you want, you can read the entire statement by using your favorite search engine.

My lawyer was not prompt enough to mail the applications by July 2 and after USCIS issue new update, they decided not to file as it will be rejected. In light of the lawsuits, below is the response I got from them?
"In light of the currently pending class action lawsuit against USCIS and numerous requests to file for Adjustment of Status despite the unavailable visa numbers, we have decided to do the following with regards to current filing of adjustments:
If you have an older priority date (EB-2 or EB-3) such as 2004 or earlier, it would most likely be a waste of your time and money to file your adjustment now. It could take over a year and a half (if not longer) for a decision to be reached in the lawsuit, and chances are that your priority date would come current before then, making you eligible to file your adjustment.
If you have an newer priority date (EB-2 or EB-3) such as 2005/6 or later, it may be beneficial to file the adjustment now and become part of the class action lawsuit, but this is just speculation. In any case, the initial filing would be outwardly denied and no immediate benefit would come of it. Even if the lawsuit had a favorable outcome, you will have to refile the adjustment at the time of the court's decision, which would incur more legal fees. Again, it could take over a year and a half (if not longer) for a decision to be reached in the lawsuit, and your priority date could come current before then, making you eligible to file your adjustment and making the lawsuit a big waste of time and money.
Ultimately it is your decision as to what you want to do. We are willing to file your case now if you so wish. Please note that our office will be charging full legal fees for each time the adjustment is filed. The full legal fee will be due upon the initial filing of the case, and again on any subsequent filings of the same case, whenever that may be, as all paperwork will have to be redone.
Please keep in mind that once we file your case, we can guarantee that it will be rejected immediately. You will receive no immediate benefit from filing this case. You will not be issued travel documents, and you will not be issued an EAD card."
So friends, what are you folks doing? Any thoughts or comments?
Regards.

Excellent point. It is called the Selective Service System (www.sss.gov), used when the President orders a military draft (like the ones during WW2 and Vietnam war)
You have to register (males only) if you become a Permanent Resident in the ages 18-26; otherwise you could have problems during naturalization (N-400 has a specific question for Selective Service) and securing Federal Student Aid.

Are we sure that consular processing dates are mirror of AOS bulletin?
I am sure it is, I am a CP candidate, till now AOS dates mirrored CP dates and vice versa, so this time also it has to be true!!! Usually consulates get the dates b4hand from DOS, as they have to schedule interviews. I hope I'll be scheduled for the interview this april.

Couldn't disagree more with kaisersose or guns. GC system as it exists is rubbish and ugly in many ways- but as bad as it is that's what's legal and in place now so we have to go thru that and if possible, make it better along the way appealing to the saner elements of the society. Brain drain is tricky - you guys are honest enough to admit to not having it so theres clearly no drain there but other programmers will disagree. Some history lesson's also in order - will do it later. But that's why america needs me - i'm an annoying reminder to its core value(related to immigration) when a section forgets it or finds it inconvenient or abhorrent- and if i were to shed some modesty-and i'm going to-, i'd grandly say i'm here to remind some countrymen about what it means to quintessentially be an American

Hello there,
I called of them, took me less than 15 minutes. i am sure everyone else can call too. The selfish brats who have EAD's and are acting ignorant, remember if something goes wrong you could be stuck on EAD's for another 5- 10 years. The point is, we all as a highly skilled immigrants have an obligation to help ourselves and the ones who are stuck in this limbo till we get our GC.
You can either choose a piece of pie or take the whole cake home for your family and friends. Life is all about choices and a man is as good as his word. So give out your good word and help the others. 15 minutes that's it.

I think Founder of IV got green card 2 or 3 years back. So he may think it may be waste of time to write a message in Forum. Or he may be only working in background. Donor members and State chapters may have a better idea as they know more than normal members. If they also see no participation from him then we can decide that he is busy in his personal work and no time to devote for IV
I have been a IV member since 2006 . I have seen the ups/downs . donated money , sent letters , attended rallies and done whatever has been been proposed . But I see that many senior members who had the drive to motivate people are not sending or being part of any messages or threads at all and that is exactly why the movement seems to be losing steam .
The standard response that I see to any question is "have you donated money ? " . "Don't ask for anything till you have donated. " this is followed by some some red dots which normally works to silence the questions. People will be willing to donate when they believe in the movement . I remember we collected $ 30,000 in 1 month before the rally there was huge thread with all the donations . People were charged up and the money came up automatically . I am willing to donate but to be brutally honest I do not see the same level of motivation as was there in 2006 / 2007 days .Please use this as a wakeup call and not as reason to vent your frustration on me .
There are many senior members who I do not even see any more . Members joining in late 2007 or early 2008 will not know any of these guys .
Aman Kapoor . He is the founder of IV . I have not seen his messages since the past 3 years almost . Where is he ? Is it too much for him to send a greeting in New years eve motivating the members ? It takes just 2 minutes .
Mark Bartosik :- He was supposed to the spokesperson for IV .The guy with the MasterCard sign for immigration . I have not seen him for quite some time now
Where are the other senior leaders like
a) Walden Pond
b) There was a this British Girl from San Jose ( had a handle which had name like Rose or something )
c) Niloufer Bustani from Dallas. I see her once in a while but very sparingly .
The others even I have forgotten completely.
The only leadership/core that I see is Pappu and no one else . If you have a country where the prime minister shows his face only once in 4 years , how are the people supposed to believe in that movement ? Please don't reply with a message saying what have I done or why can't I contribute money ? I have done that I am looking for leadership to show us the way and motivate us . All campaigns don't need money donations( Letters , calls , faxes etc ) . We could start with that and then drum up support and momentum and then the money will start flowing in automatically . There has to be a synchronized campaign organized by the leadership and all I see is everybody putting their eggs in the basket called spillover.

A lot of people, including me have lost faith in IV. They are not going to pay. We don't know what IV is working on
I believe the core group has made efforts to let us know what they are working on. Obviously, we shouldn't expect them to give us a daily update. That would be quite stupid.
and we don't believe it can do anything. The sooner IV accepts it, the better. I have seen this personally in talking to people and you can see the evidence with less than 300 people contributing. IV needs to produce results first.
I think this has also been addressed here in different threads. IV cannot, just by itself, get congress to pass pro-immigration laws. However, it can influence the senate/congress to add pro-EB provisions to pro-immigration laws.
If you think that with 8000 members, and 300 contributing members, you can have the congress/senate pass pro-EB laws, you are grossly mistaken.
IV needs to figure out other ways to generate cash if it thinks that would help. One way would be advertising on the site. I think IV has built this website well and it is an asset it needs to use NOW. I believe IV can charge up to $10,000 a day for advertising on the website. That would be $300,000/month or $3.6 million a year. Even $3000/day would result in over $1 million. That should not be very difficult to do.
Great idea.
Except, nobody is going to pay 10K/day to advertise on this site.
For a group that can't generate more than 4k-5k per month (200 contributions times 20) for something that it desperately needs, it would be an absolute travesty of common-sense for a business, to invest 300K per month in advertising to such a group.
Keep in mind the following two equations.
Membership+funding+lobbying+patience = Chance of success
Sitting on our butts = Guaranteed failure
BTW, I would also like to point out the antiwar website again.
They are doing a funding drive.
On day 1 of their funding drive, 117 people gave a total of 5312 dollars.
Their goal is 70K for this quarter. And they hope to raise that money in one week. After this week, they will again ask for funding in the next quarter.
Obviously they have a HUGE membership compared to IV. But that just underscores the need for increasing membership.
