I will contribute to this fight. I wonder why they are going after us few legal people who follow all the rules and regulations and pay taxes and contribute to the economy and the society rather than going after the 12 million of undocumented workers

H1-B has the following advantages under certain conditions.

    1) If you are not yet married, you dump H1 and you are dumping the ability to bring your future wife to US immediately after marriage.

    2) Some states give driving licenses that is valid until the EAD expiry or H1-B I-94 expiry. With H1-B, your hassle of DL renewal is reduced to one third of EAD based.

This is the kind of attitude that we must have in life. Not just in our immigration matters, but as general view of what life is and how to get things done.

If you want to change things, you have fight for it. And remember, trying to change the law is not against the law.

I think this will be viewed more as a blackmailing method than anything else.
Moreover, if you look at the history of past such movements( LOL ), this is 180 degrees inverse of those successful movements.

I'm a firm believer in GC success through lobbying.

    Hey Bel -

Quite honestly I think the best value from an MBA is derived from the timing, i.e. where one is in his / her career. I had a B Com (Accounting) from University of Sydney, an American CPA, combined with 10 years of work experience whilst enrolling for the MBA. I knew ahead, the curriculum wasn't going to bring added technical knowledge, however, it did bring some new ways of approaching the business community. Having the opportunity to sit in a class room and share / hear experiences from some of the successful executives does broaden the thought process. The program also helps build / expand the network. Again, I didn't feel I learnt something groundbreaking on the technical aspects of accounting / financial analysis, or the everyday business etc, but I wouldn't say it was completely useless. Plus for some reason, the "tag" does help.

BTW, I'm not sure the background of those who provided you feedback. My sentiments are shared at least by 3 good friends. One is a Wharton Alum and the other two, from University of Toronto. All of whom had at least 14 years of work experience, and were Canadian Chartered Accountants at the time of enrollment. The feedback could vary depending on the backgrounds.

May be that is the reason you took offense when people commented on Bcom thing. An MBA is valuable only if your bachelors degree is valuable. Many people have this wrong notion that it does not matter what you have in your bachelors, if you get an MBA everything is all set. Companies need engineer + MBA combination. Very few companies hire MBAs for accounting work. DOn't confuse accounting with finance, they are different. I can tell you that for sure, as i work in finance.

Contents of MBA also matter, most people take easy way out by taking all bluff management, marketing and strategy courses. Very few take the hardcore finance courses such as derivatives, fixed income, and valuations (these courses could differ in level of difficulty based on school).

Trust me ...there is nothing better that that feeling.

I am proud of what I did as a young student leader in 1980 in BITS Pilani. When I see new students from my school, I feel happy that I did have a huge impact on their lives....

But .... I also feel sad when I see a bunch of totally passed out guys, who refuce to do anything on the initiatives of IV.

I bet 90 % of IV members are below 35 years but are totally passed out.

BOTTOM LINE IS.... LET US FIGHT & would not accept status quo. We did not come to US on boats & horseback.....

Do you belong to a state chapter?
if you don't can you please join a state chapter?
I sent a request to Kansas City Chapter to join. No response yet.
If a state chapter does not exist in your area can you form one?
I am trying to start a chapter here. I have already enlisted the help of few friends.
Can you recruit new members to be part of state chapters?
I have been doing that for quite some time. I dont know the success rate yet. My wife is part of a group which organizes Potlucks every other week. I take that opportunity to educate people about IV and the need to join it.
Can you motivate newbies to be active?
    I can try.
Can you meet your Local Lawmakers and talk about your issues?
I have already met with NE Senator on a couple of occasions including for the admin fixes campaign.
Can you make a contribution to IV?
    I have
Can you motivate other IV'ans to contribute?
    I will
Please put ome thoughts on the above and come up with Ideas?. If you need help please PM any of us and we will be happy to help you.

Regarding conributions, I know it is probably going to meet with some resistance from other members, but we can organize a membership drive week. Any current member signing up most members during that week can be rewarded in some way. The reward need not me monetary, because people are not here for money. So, the reward can be some sort of memento.

As far as contributions are concerned, there are many ways to raise money in this country like Raffles, Fund raising by selling some products. (See how Boys and Girls Scouts sells cookies.) and so on.

None of these is impossible. Remember, there is no such thing called IMPOSSIBLE, because the word itself says, I'MPOSSIBLE.
    Thanks

This is pure speculation on my part, but if CIS is returning visa numbers and there are now some visas available, it seems like it would make more sense for DOS to just make the returned visas available in the August bulletin, rather than flip flop on July once again.

I think that is what they will do in order not to look like fools.
the question is, What happens to those july filers whose applications have not been returned yet and who will become current in the next bulletin.
Will USCIS ask them for the new fees.... Will they have to do all paperwork again including medicals.....what a mess!

India has not moved an inch (may be has retarded in its growth) forward when it comes to quality of life or individual freedom or Govt.-public relationship. You can't do just with money. Money doesn't buy everything one need for a peaceful, happy life.

And, an individual or a group in India cannot fight against anything that is evil in India. The option for people is to go places. So, the politicians are responsible. I am not surpirsed by your question "how come the 'inncoent' politicians responisble?" because Indians' thoughts have changed so much that we accept and expect politicians to be evil, corrupt, inhuman etc. I mentioned people as smart in irony and I am sorry that you couldn't understand that!

No one was forced to leave India? What if you join an IT company and if the only option is to come here? Will you resign? Does everyone have the luxury of saying no to a job and pick up what they want? Which world are you? It's rat race back home. Do you know how many people have changed their and their families fortune by coming here?

I am only supporting somebody who said it is so frustrating that we have to wait so much for a GC. He didn't really mean that he was going to tear his GC, once he gets it. He was so much frustrated about it that he wont be feeling happy about it anymore. But, many have started shooting at him already.

Live in peace. I dont think this is a forum to see who is 'smart'.

Do not tear the GC, instead if you ever receive it and decide going back to India, frame it. One may never in his or her lifetime wait for an entity so much desperately as we all have for the GC.

WillWin, I do not agree that India is not moving forward. Infact people in India are raking money. We should not blame politicians or anyone for the state we are in. No one forced us to leave India. Defending our decision to leave India and come here by calling us "smart" is demeaning to our friends back home. Does it mean that they were not "smart" and hence stayed back? If at all, I would say they were the smartest and are reaping the benefits today.

sorry man, my hinglish is vrey vrey vrey poor. so plaese bear wtih me.

Lets not argue, lets discuss, maybe I could agree with your views. So heer it goes, how is quota limits fair to anybody? I thought we are all equals, unless you think you are challenged in anyways - physically or otherwise, in that case I agree, you are 100% right, there must be a special quota for you. For all others who consider themselves to be equal shareholders to the free society, isn't preferential treatment for any set of people "wrong" and "unfair"? Just asking? I mean are we not equals, if yes, then there should be no quota for any country, if no and you think you are superior, which maybe true, then I should get preferential treatment, if no, and you think you are inferior or otherwise challenged in anyways, well, in that case yes, you sure should be treat better than others.... you know....

So what do you think you are - equal? inferior? or superior? I mean it has go to be one of those, right?

Ok, I will give you a weak analogy. See how Indian IPOs distribute shares when it is oversubscribed. The same thing goes here. Replace money by applicants and replace investors by countries, and you will get a sense as to why per country quota is implemented. I agree it is hard to digest the per country quota, but it is what it is. It is affirmative action if you will. It requires equality, but gives some buffer to people not properly represented (or run the risk of being overwhelmed by any single country).

    [QUOTE=sachug22;261611]We know:

EB1 and EB2-ROW was current the whole year, which means there are not many pending+ready cases.
They have used all EB3 visas.
What they are left with is 20,000 visas(10-15% of 140,000 since more than 80% was used in first 3 quarters). This will be mostly for EB2 India/China.

They may not have enough pending+ready application for pre-april-2004 (previous VB). So they had to moved the date forward to get enough applicantions not to waste the numbers.

I think the above reasoning is right. They have many visa numbers left and also have visa numbers spilling from EB1. They dont want to waste it (finally!!) thus moved the date forward to approve many visa quickly as they did June 2007 before July fiasco. They approved 30-40 K applications at that time.
